Seo’s ‘Material Container’ series draws inspiration from local craft techniques, emphasizing the tactile qualities of diverse materials. This collection features furniture pieces that showcase contrasting components atop circular bases.
First displayed in 2013, the designs juxtapose two distinct structural elements: conical containers that serve as bases for seats made from an array of materials. This arrangement artistically creates a visual and textural dialogue between the opposing forms.

On his website, Seo describes these unique and wonderfully constructed pieces that range from 2019 to the present: “An intriguing interplay between shape, material, softness, and brutality, the Cylinder Bench is a formation of cast aluminum tubes and transparent acrylic.”
“Sanded down to achieve an opaque, organic quality, the acrylic slab sits atop the aluminum construction, maximizing the structural beauty throughout the bench.”

“The Cylinder Bench adapts to its surroundings, while simultaneously imposing upon them through the manipulation of light and shadow.”
