Summer fruit tasting and farm tours
Birdsong Orchards has so many delicious fruits right now and wants you to taste them all. Farm tours will be held with fruit tastings at 11 a.m. Sunday. Walk the orchard with Nadine at 613 Lakeview Road, Watsonville. Talk a bit about summer fruit tree health and care. And most deliciously, taste a bunch of fruit, straight from the trees into your mouth. Each $30 ticket includes 5 pounds of fruit to take home as well. The event is suitable for ages 10 and up and limited to 25 people.
Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. The tour will walk 1-2 miles total on a gentle slope.

WATSONVILLE
You-pick dahlias by the Bay
Visit Vallejo St. Dahlias through Aug. 31 to see a field of nearly 2,000 dahlia plants in over 80 varieties and pick a bouquet for yourself or a special someone to take home. Ticket price is per person and includes access to the flower field at 37 Paulsen Road, Watsonville. All the necessary supplies such as clippers and bouquet wrap are provided. Tickets must be purchased online., and only ticket holders will be permitted into the field. This event is for people ages 12 and older and requires the use of sharp garden floral snips. Children 11 or under may accompany a ticket holder free of charge but will need to be supervised at all times. Tickets are non-refundable. Blooms are priced per stem, based on the size of the bloom. There are over 1,700 plants in over 80 varieties, so there are plenty of gorgeous blooms to choose from and enjoy.
Keep in mind you will be visiting a working farm field, so there will be dirt, weeds with nasty spines, bugs and mud, and uneven ground is also possible. The weather tends to be foggy and cool in the mornings, so be prepared for overcast weather with temperatures in the 60s. Bringing a light jacket or sweater is advised and closed toed shoes that will help you to navigate the field. Dates and times are as listed, rain or shine. Sunscreen is recommended. Use provided garbage cans for any trash. Do not bring any pets (service animals are absolutely welcome) Your tickets will be rescheduled if the event is canceled. Cancellations and rescheduling will be communicated via email.

Shared Adventures Garden Club held weekly
Come get your hands dirty, your heart happy, and your mind clear, gardening is therapeutic. From 11 a.m. to noon every Thursday Shared Adventures Gardening Club meets at Common Roots Farm, 301 Golf Club Drive, Santa Cruz. There are raised ADA garden beds to work in and ADA paths as well. Show up, sign in and help out. It’s a fun atmosphere and adaptable to all abilities.

Upcoming Birds & Blooms Tours
UC Santa Cruz will host Birds & Blooms Tour at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Meet your tour guide at the entrance to the visitor parking lot. Tour guide Jeff Caplan of Common Language Nature is bilingual in English and Spanish, and a bird and flower enthusiast. Tours are kid and family friendly and are included with cost of admission, which is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for youth 4-17 and free for kids under 4.
Admission is free for current Arboretum members. Walks will be about one hour or longer depending on the group. Be sure to check out the Birds of the Arboretum on your own too. The Arboretum provides remarkable birding opportunities throughout the year.

Up early for Santa Cruz Garden Exchange, tours
Join fellow gardeners for the free monthly Santa Cruz Garden Exchange from 8 to 9 a.m. Aug. 24 in the parking lot of Santa Cruz Live Oak Grange, 1900 17th Ave., Santa Cruz. Park in the northern rows of the parking lot away from the building. Gardeners are welcome to bring seeds, bulbs, succulents, houseplants, veggies, fresh flowers, informational material or any garden-related items to trade within the garden community. You do not need to bring something in order to participate and you must take back anything not given out.
Join the Santa Cruz Garden Exchange members in the first season of Garden Tours. Members will be departing together from the exchange at approximately 9:15 a.m. Join this month for a double garden tour. The first tour begins at 9:30 a.m. and the second at 10 a.m. Grab a flier with the address by attending the garden exchange.
